T-Level Industry Placements: A Win-Win for Students and Employers

30-05-2025

We recently welcomed a film crew to site to interview BGB Production Manager, Nathan Flower, as part of a campaign highlighting the benefits of T-Level industry placements for both employers and students.

“I see this as an aspirational pipeline of future employment,” Nathan explained. “We’ve worked closely with Grantham College & University Centre for many years, and we’re now seeing first-hand the value T-Levels bring and the promising young engineers they help develop.”

Pictured with Nathan are current T-Level placement students Javan and Young, who are just beginning their engineering journey.

Keep an eye on our LinkedIn and News pages to watch the full interview when it’s released.

What Are T-Levels?

T-Levels are two-year technical qualifications launched by the UK government in 2020, aimed at 16 to 19-year-olds. They offer a high-quality alternative to A-Levels and apprenticeships by combining classroom study with at least 315 hours (around 45 days) of industry placement in a relevant field.

The Student Perspective: Gaining Skills and Confidence

For students, industry placements provide a vital step into working life. Unlike short-term work experience, these placements allow students to become genuinely involved in day-to-day operations.

Key benefits include:

  • Real-world experience: Insight into workplace expectations, teamwork, and communication

  • Skill development: Growth of technical and soft skills employers value

  • Improved CVs: Industry experience boosts employability and university applications

  • Career clarity: First-hand exposure to a sector helps inform future career choices

The Employer Advantage: Investing in the Future Workforce

From engineering to healthcare and digital sectors, more employers are recognising the advantages of supporting T-Level placements.

“It’s a win-win situation,” says Nathan. “There are clear benefits for both the student and the employer. It’s something we’re committed to continuing.”

Why Employers Are Getting Involved:

  • Talent pipeline: A chance to spot and nurture future employees

  • Fresh perspectives: Young people bring energy, digital know-how, and fresh ideas

  • Community engagement: Supporting local education boosts corporate social responsibility and company reputation

  • Staff development: Mentoring students provides valuable experience for existing team members

Support and Flexibility

Government resources and toolkits are available to help employers set up placements smoothly, with flexibility to suit business needs — whether over block periods or part-time arrangements.

Looking Ahead

With more than 20 T-Level subjects now available and uptake continuing to grow, the scheme is set to become a vital part of technical education in the UK. By taking part, businesses are doing more than just supporting students — they’re helping to shape a skilled, work-ready future.
