Zoedale in The Community

04-01-2016

This entry was posted on 21 December, 2015 by Zoedale Plc. At Zoedale we’re committed to helping community based projects and offer our staff 2 paid “Volunteer Days” per year. Read what our staff have been up to over the last 12 months 888,246 ceramic poppies filled the famous moat at The Tower of London, marking one hundred years since the first day of Britain’s involvement in WW1, something that will never be forgotten. Over 4 million people visited the display between July and November 2014 and 8,000 volunteers dismantled the beautiful monument, Zoedale’s Alison being one of them. Alison spent the day in her wellies covered in mud dismantling the poppies alongside the other volunteers. The Poppies were then sold to members of the public raising millions of pounds for 6 charities. “Amazing experience volunteering at the tower of London. So grateful to have been part of something so important” Peaceful Priory Country Park is surrounded by 360 acres of rich and diverse wildlife life. Priory Country Park has been awarded green flag status and is managed for the benefit of both people and wildlife. Nigel spent the day working with one of the park rangers Danny, assisting him in his daily tasks. It was a hot summer’s day, preparation for the fishing season was underway. Nigel got stuck in clearing the bays of grass, brambles, eradiating hemlock and giant hogweed. “A thoroughly enjoyable experience, I even had a few aches the following day” Vojo is a cycling enthusiast and over the last few year as a his group of friends have raise up to £9,000 per event, one of which was cycling from London to Paris for Great Ormond Street hospital. This summer they went down to the south west for the weekend and walked the coastal route from Lanes End to Penzance, in aid of Bedford Hospital Trust. On the first day the weather was fair a great contrast to the second day where it rained heavily, but only in Lanes End. After the gruelling peaks and troughs of the coast line a well-deserved beer was waiting for them at a local pub in Penzance. Planning has already begun for next year which looks to be a cycling event in Brussels. Andrew is a big fan of Rugby; this August he was one of the lucky people to get a place as a volunteer for the Rugby World Cup. After more than 20,000 applications, 6,000 volunteers were chosen to welcome the world to England and Cardiff for The World Cup. Andrew underwent 2 days of training and became part of two teams, the accreditation team who distributed accreditation and uniform to the volunteer workforce and also the Spectator Experience team. Over the course of event Andrew worked 10 shifts and experienced exclusive behind the scenes access, one of which was watching the Japan team train. “Being part of an electric atmosphere” Andrew thoroughly enjoyed his volunteering at the Rugby world cup. It ended with a big after party for the volunteers who were also given tickets to see events such as the cycling at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Our MD Tim Guest has been helping out at local college First Place Training in Bedford. They offer help to 16 – 18 year olds who did not make the grade to continue to further education or an apprenticeship. It’s an important time for these people who are trying to get started on the employment ladder and Tim ran sessions on CV writing and interview techniques. We have also invited some of their IT students into our offices during project kick off meetings so they can see what happens in a real life scenario. In September 2015 Zoedale again sponsored the technology event SAP Inside Track Sheffield. Using our IT systems to enhance our business processes and improve customer service is high on the list of priorities at Zoedale and we were happy to sponsor this worthwhile event for the second year. It’s a free community based event offering hands on training and presentations of the latest in SAP Technology.
