Hmtooling was involved in a vast project of helping bring a new motor way sign to production. Several prototype tools were made to achieve the required light output. Hardened Stavax esr 52rc was used for all the tooling inserts. A four drop hot runner system, was used to feed the lens allowing for a perfect flow path to get high optical and dimensional results.
Each lens is thoroughly inspected optically before being screwed to the Nylon visor moulding. The assembled parts are then checked on jigs to ensure that they are within the specified tight tolerance for size and flatness. The optics are very high speed machined on through hardened pins which are then polished to a mirror finish, before they have a titanium coating applied to them. This coating stops the polished finish becoming tarnished whilst moulding over a wide period of time
