Eriez to Showcase Scrap Upgrading and Copper Control System at ReMA 2026
Eriez, a global leader in separation technologies, will showcase a complete downstream scrap upgrading system at the ReMA 2026 Convention and Exposition, highlighting proven methods for reducing copper levels and increasing the value of shredded ferrous output. Designed for processors facing tighter mill specifications and rising quality expectations, the system is built around the Shred1® Ballistic Metal Separator.
The Shred1 uses magnetic forces and ballistic separation to sort mixed shred into two clean streams: a high-value, low-copper #1 product and a conventional #2 grade.
At ReMA, Eriez will run an equipment demonstration line designed to reflect real-world operation. Material is fed into the Shred1, where it is separated into premium and standard ferrous fractions. These streams are then conveyed to an Eriez Scrap Drum, where a deep magnetic field captures and concentrates ferrous material for further refinement. Additional stages remove copper-bearing particles and non-ferrous debris, demonstrating how processors can progressively reduce copper content while maintaining recovery and throughput.
The Shred1 system typically produces a premium ferrous product containing around 0.16–0.20% copper, helping scrap yards meet higher-value market requirements without compromising production efficiency.
“Processors today face the dual challenge of meeting chemistry targets and maintaining output,” said Mike Shattuck, Business Development Manager – Recycling at Eriez USA. “This demonstration shows how integrating complementary technologies in the right sequence can achieve both goals.”
Eriez systems are used worldwide in recycling operations handling shredded vehicles, appliances and other complex scrap streams. Whether deployed as standalone equipment or as part of a complete processing line, Eriez solutions are designed to improve recovery, minimise losses and reduce total processing costs.
